This book examines the sustainability of small-scale quarrying in Wazo Hill, Kinondoni Municipality (Dar es Salaam), focusing on its impacts on land rights, the environment, and community livelihoods. Based on surveys with households and quarry workers, as well as interviews with local authorities, the study shows that quarrying provides essential income and employment, especially for youth and women. However, these benefits are accompanied by unsafe working conditions, environmental degradation, and weak regulatory oversight. The book highlights challenges related to land tenure and governance, and proposes policy measures to promote sustainable resource use, stronger environmental protection, and more inclusive community participation.
